Visit to the IKON gallery

Taking a trip to the Ikon gallery was quite beneficial, looking at work like Ron Terada, Shuruq Harb and more so Susan Collis who displayed a range of contextual work as you can see...

Here is photographs i took examining the effectively crafted ladders, where she has encrusted the material, mother of pearl. An expensive specimen engraved into the ladders i really liked, giving the impression of any regular ladders which people would mistake for a working facility used for painting etc.

I also liked this piece of fabric which she has designed, hand rendered to represent a throw-over in a decorating environment also, which at a distance, looks like paint.
However the painted marks were actually hand stitched to build up this intricate design.

The Baby

The baby i will create, i have decided to relate it to me, my family and our DNA genes.

Creating the designer baby for the mosaic I am intending to construct, I have based the features off me and my siblings as a baby with the best features between us.

All the features chosen are from our baby photos between 9 months old and 15 months old. Keeping our features in this range, should maintain proportion.

Ricardo = Me

Daunte = Bigger younger brother

Tyrece = Smaller younger brother

Sionia = Little Sister

Gattaca

This is a video I observed which relates to my project as it's basically designer babies grown up, set in the not too far future where a man called Vincent Freeman who plays Ethan Hawke's wants to travel in to space who is less than suitable due to heart problems which he suffers from due to his genetic make-up. As a dream ambition from he was a little boy, his desire to go to the moon was very strong, by which he uses the identity of a man called Jerome Morrow, a perfect genetic specimen barring his paraplegic status. Dodging and deceiving the system, a man is killed leading them to investigate, which contained a stand of his hair, enabling them to pick up his DNA. Keeping a low profile till his interview for an experience to go into space his fails the test because he didn’t have enough of blood from Jerome, but the inspector lets him through as he say’s “everyone is not perfect” relating to his situation.

Eyez

Mosaic Eyes found in the contemporary crafts, decorative mosaics book
Just a few examples giving a useful impression of how it could look

Inspiration

Here i found an article in the metro newspaper about mosaics which amazed me when i read it. Bob and John Woodward spending ten years creating this replica is quite impressive consisting of 1.6million pieces

Mosaic materials

A range of materials can be used for mosaic making from the classic smalti, to household china and ceramic tiles, however other materials are just as good when using things like pbbles stones, shells and other found objects can prove to be excellent surfaces.
